Monday = Decision Time
On Friday afternoon, the general manager of my work called me to discuss the training I applied for. He heard I was leaving and had no plan to give me training if I would not be sticking around. I told him I had not been given an offer and had decided I would rather stay at my current work anyway.
He told me he would approve and cover costs of this training if I agreed to sign a contract stating I would stay at my work for 12 months or repay the cost of the training. This offer is quite reasonable as it is expensive and a lot of companies do this type of thing if they put money into staff development. I told him that offer sounded good and talked to him about possiblities of pay rise.
He said there was no money left in the budget for our team because we were over by two staff members but if everyone else took on some of their workloads, then we could easily be given a pay rise with that remaining cash. I told him I would happily take on other people's workloads if it meant more money. That does not mean other people in the team will though. Pity.
I had a message to call the HR team of the other prison friday afternoon also. I had no time as it was a crazy afternoon and did not want to have to think about work stuff all weekend. From what my General manager said, he has been told I am going to the other company so it sounds like I will be getting an offer. I will call tomorrow.
The problem is I dont think I will be as happy in the other positon as it is far further to drive and I am quite content in my current job. But if they offer heaps more money then I will sort of be obliged to take the offer. I hoped they would not give me an offer at all but it sounds like they will. Tomorrow is going to be an incredibly stressful day for decision making. Lets hope they are only offering me another couple of thousand because then it won't be worth my while to change anyway due to the distance to travel and cost of petrol.
